ACTS Meeting

The ADVISORY COMMISSION ON TEXTBOOK SPECIFICATIONS (ACTS) is compromised of three participating Associations: State Instructional Materials Review Administrators (SIMRA, formerly NASTA), Book Manufacturers’ Institute (BMI), and Association of American Publishers (AAP). The purpose of this Commission is to conduct studies and research programs and tests to determine durability and other pertinent performance factors of elementary and high school textbooks; to develop and recommend standards and specifications on manufacturing processes and materials for such textbooks in order to maintain appropriate standards of quality and performance. There are eighteen (18) voting members of this Commission, six being appointed by each of the three associations.

ACTS is organized to improve and advance American education through close cooperation and mutual assistance between the State Instructional Materials Review Administrators (SIMRA), the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Book Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (BMI) in setting manufacturing standards and specifications for textbooks, and other educational materials.
